DUBAI, Nov 11: Dubai-based airline flydubai has signed the International Air Transport Association (IATA) Safety Leadership Charter, reinforcing its commitment to maintaining the highest standards of aviation safety and strengthening its internal safety culture. The signing marks a formal alignment between the airline’s leadership principles and the global framework established by IATA to enhance accountability and safety performance across the aviation sector. The charter was signed by flydubai Chief Executive Officer Ghaith Al Ghaith, joining more than 150 airlines worldwide that have adopted the initiative.

Flydubai strengthens aviation safety standards through IATA leadership initiative.

Developed by IATA in collaboration with industry stakeholders, the Safety Leadership Charter promotes a shared commitment to proactive safety management, leadership engagement, and continuous improvement. The program aims to ensure that safety remains central to airline operations through consistent leadership visibility, communication, and transparent reporting practices. Al Ghaith said the signing reflects the airline’s unwavering focus on safety as a fundamental element of its operations. “We are pleased to sign the IATA Safety Leadership Charter, re-emphasising our commitment to the highest standards of aviation safety. By embedding the Charter’s guiding principles into our daily operations and sharing our experiences, insights and best practices, we aim to further contribute towards a stronger and safer global aviation industry,” he said. He noted that maintaining a safety-first culture remains a top priority across all levels of the organisation.

IATA initiative promotes stronger leadership in safety

The IATA Safety Leadership Charter outlines principles intended to guide airlines in developing strong safety cultures through leadership engagement and accountability. It calls for continuous monitoring and improvement of safety practices, empowering leaders to encourage open communication, identify risks early, and ensure that operational decisions consistently prioritise safety. Signatories commit to regular assessment and review processes to enhance safety culture maturity within their organisations. Khalid Alhumaidan, Senior Vice President of Compliance, Safety and Sustainability at flydubai, said the agreement represents an important milestone in the airline’s ongoing safety journey. “Joining the IATA Safety Leadership Charter marks an important milestone in flydubai’s journey to continuously strengthen our safety culture. Leadership plays a vital role in shaping safety outcomes, and through this Charter, we reaffirm our commitment to promoting trust, accountability and transparency at every level of the organisation,” he said.

Flydubai strengthens its position in aviation safety culture

He added that the Charter’s adoption complements the airline’s existing Safety Management System, which continuously monitors operational safety performance. Alhumaidan said the airline’s approach ensures that every decision prioritises the wellbeing of passengers, crew, and operational personnel. By integrating the Charter’s principles into its existing framework, flydubai aims to further solidify a culture of responsibility and openness in safety management. Founded in 2008, flydubai operates a network of more than 120 destinations across the Middle East, Africa, Europe, and Asia. The airline’s safety and compliance systems have evolved alongside its expanding fleet and route network, positioning safety as a defining component of its operational structure. Its endorsement of the IATA Charter aligns with Dubai’s strategic objective to maintain global leadership in aviation safety and operational excellence.

Introduced in 2023, the IATA Safety Leadership Charter seeks to promote industry-wide consistency in leadership behaviour and safety culture. It encourages airline executives and safety managers to take a visible, proactive role in building trust, fostering communication, and driving accountability throughout their organisations. The initiative has become a benchmark for airlines seeking to integrate safety leadership as a measurable and sustained practice rather than a procedural requirement. By signing the Charter, flydubai reinforces its position among global carriers committed to transparent and accountable safety leadership. The move reflects the airline’s continued efforts to align with international best practices and contribute to a safer and more resilient global aviation industry. – By Content Syndication Services.
